Supporting the 21st century teacher

The Virtual-Workspace aims to transform your students' learning experience, adding fuel to the UK's drive to raise attainment and motivation in education through ICT. It builds on their confidence, independence and motivation by offering them more choice and control in the way they learn. For teachers, it offers an opportunity to help lighten workloads and build new skill sets to become an e-confident teacher

Key features...

  • Improving the nature of learning: Good resources cater for different styles. Tools, such as our Learning Styles Questionnaire, assess individual students' preferred learning styles so that tailored learning materials and information can be offered to enhance their learning.
  • Cutting down teacher workloads:
    • A management system for assessments lets you set your students classwork, coursework and homework. What's more, you can receive work from your students and return it to them fully marked and graded!
    • The automated markbook facility allows you to keep a track of completed assignments.
    • The Virtual-Workspace enables self-directed learning, greater social contact, peer support, and provides a live mentoring service for your students from 8am to 8pm - bringing value to your non-contact time.
  • Teachers submitting learning materials: Teachers are offered the opportunity to create and submit appropriate learning materials - enabling the valuable sharing of resources between all teachers in the Virtual-Workspace community.
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD): A range of CPD programmes are offered to teachers and support staff using the V-W, eg guidance on integrating the system into their teaching and learning. Opportunities to attain a formal accreditation in e-learning are also available.
  • Online ICT skills training: All staff and students using the V-W are offered support in developing their ICT skills through a series of online modules. This ICT skills training is available on a self-directed, individual learning basis and anyone who completes all the modules could be accredited for the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL).
  • 24-hour technical helpline: If you ever need help when using the Virtual-Workspace, you can call our dedicated 24-hour technical helpline.
  • Flexibility of access: Being entirely online means you can access your workspace when you want and where you want. Ultimately, it means greater flexibility for you and your students in when and where tasks are carried out.
